Fire That Destroyed Old State Building Ruled Arson

SACRAMENTO (CBS13) ― A state building that has been the target of vandalism in the past has now been destroyed by a fire that fire fighters say was intentionally set.

Flames torch shot through the old California Youth Authority building on Ramona Avenue near Folsom Boulevard and Power Inn Road.

The first crews faced towering flames and several obstacles as they tried to douse the flames coming from the abandoned facility.

"The biggest challenge for us was water supply because there was only one hydrant serving this facility and it was over 1500 feet away," said Jay Glass of the Sacramento City Fire department.

And there was also a chain link fence surrounding the building that fire fighters had to cut through to get better access to the fire.

There was no one inside the building and no injuries being reported at this time.

The building is owned by University Enterprises, Inc., the business arm of California State University Sacramento.

Anyone with information on the fire is asked to call the Sacramento Fire Department.
