Police: Couple Forced 14-Year-Old To Prostitute
by Ron Jones
SACRAMENTO (CBS13) ―
For sale: One 14-year-old runaway girl for sexual pleasure.
"She was being advertised in the Sacramento News and Reviews," Lt. Dave Farmer of the West Sacramento Police said.
Police say she was not only in the newspaper complete with photos, she was also being sold for sex on Craigslist.
"There are people out there that prey on young children," said Lt. Farmer.
In his 36 years of service Lt. Farmer has never seen a case like this. The 14-year-old girl was allegedly forced into prostitution by both Edward Gentry, 22, and Keisha Pagan, 35.
The girl apparently ran away from home last month, and ended up under Gentry and Pagan's care at a Sacramento motel. Police said the couple posted sex ads for the girl, and an undercover officer called the couple. Police found Gentry, Pagan, and the little girl in the motel room.
"There are many, many minors on the streets no matter where you go," said Lt. Farmer.
"They're young but I don't how young. Buy they're young," Suzie Tafoya, a Sacramento resident said.
Tafoya works at a bar in Sacramento that's surrounded by prostitution. She sees girls of alls ages on the street, and warns parents.
"But if they're runaways or their parents don't know where they're at or they're just trying to make money for dope they're going to do whatever they want to do. No parent's going to stop them," said Tafoya.
The unidentified girl is now in protective custody and the couple is facing numerous felony charges.
