The bus driver who was convicted of manslaughter will spend decades in prison for a bus crash that killed 11 people and injured dozens in 2008.
Quintin Watts, 53, was sentenced to 26 years and four months in prison for the October 2008 crash on the way to the Colusa Casino Resort. He will also face four years of parole after he serves his sentence.
Eleven people died and 23 others were injured when the bus, mainly carrying Hmong and Mien immigrants, left a Yolo County road and rolled over.
Survivors of the crash testified that Watts appeared to be falling asleep moments before the collision.
The crash prompted legislation aimed at increasing penalties on charter
bus carriers that violate safety standards. Watts did not have the
proper license and the bus wasn't registered with the state, say
authorities.
