Solving a crime can take a lot of hard work, but sometimes it's just dumb luck. An accused criminal fell into the laps of Lodi detectives.
Three Lodi detectives walked into Avenue Coins and Currency in Stockton hoping for a lead. But they never expected an arrest so soon.
"We went and pulled out the day's sales and sure enough there's East Indian jewelry," said Darla Stevens, Avenue Coins & Currency employee.
Stuff stolen from two burglaries was sold at the store just the day before, then, lo and behold, the suspect walked in to allegedly sell more.
"I mean, what are the odds?" said Stevens. "And the dude stood there!"
Cops say it was Ossie Louis. And they had a few quick questions for him: "What's your name? Where'd you get that? Come with us. It was hysterical," said Stevens.
Louis said he got the stolen stuff from his boss, Josh Singh. Now, they're both under arrest. Talk about an easy day at the office.
"I mean this has got to be the easiest case any police officer's ever had," said Stevens. "Here you go, here's your criminal. You look like a hero."
It's been a good streak of luck for Lodi detective Eric Bradley. While on a lunch break, He nabbed a guy for burglary after overhearing him brag about selling jewelry.
"And those three detectives are going 'it made our day! Ha!'" said Stevens.
Detective Bradley is on a roll. It might be a good time to try buying a lottery ticket.
So far, detectives are connecting the suspects to two home burglaries. One of those burglaries happened at the suspect's sister's house.
