Family Plucked From River By CHP Happy To Be Safe
NEVADA COUNTY (CBS13) ―
A CHP helicopter plucked six people off the roof of their trapped vehicle that was about to be swept away by the freezing water of a Nevada County river.
The rescue happened late Memorial Day when the CHP's Valley Division Helicopter got a call about a Toyota FJ Cruiser stuck in the swift-moving Fordyce River just below Fordyce Lake.
When the chopper, piloted by Officer Steve Ward and Flight Officer Marty Martain arrived, the family had moved onto the roof of the vehicle to get out of the freezing water.
The crew was able to pluck the two adults, four kids and a dog from the roof. The Nevada County Sheriff's Department and CalFire were also dispatched.
