CHP Officer Hurt In Chain-Reaction Crash On I-80

SACRAMENTO (CBS13) ― A CHP motorcycle officer has been inured in a crash that almost sent him flying off an elevated section of Interstate 80 in Sacramento.

The officer was helping guide a disabled car off the ramp of Interstate 80 west of Longview when the accident happened.

The CHP says a chain reaction accident that started two cars behind the officer ended up sending a car slamming into the back of the CHP motorcycle.  The impact threw him from the motorcycle nearly tossed him over the guardrail and off the roadway.

The officer has been taken to the hospital to be treated. The driver of the white pickup truck who started the accident was taken to the hospital with internal injuries.

One lane of eastbound Interstate 80 was closed for a short time. I has since reopened.
