Cat Paralyzed By Shootings Now Back To Normal
ROSEVILLE, Calif. (CBS13) ―
Big Ben is on the mend. The black cat was riddled with gun pellets back in June, leaving him paralyzed. The feisty feline is now bouncing back.
Big Ben has been through more than most cats who have already used their nine lives.
"There were five pellets that were in Big Ben," said Leilani Vierra, CEO Placer SPCA.
You could say that Big Ben had a big problem and veterinarians weren't sure he'd make it.
"It looked like Ben had been shot on several occasions with two different weapons," said Bill Fastiggi of Sunrise Blvd. Animal Hospital.
Someone shot him with BBs, but Big Ben survived and showed no signs he was even hurt.
The placer SPCA in Roseville found him in June. It wasn't until a few weeks when Ben lost his ability to walk with his back legs.
"It had been in his spinal canal for several months or year or two and it had actually moved and paralyzed Ben," said Bill.
So Big Ben had surgery to remove the pellets, and now, "Ben's back to being a 100% pretty normal kitty cat again so its really pretty darn cool and its amazing that he's made such a quick recovery," said Bill.
Big Ben has already landed on his feet. His miraculous recovery sounds like some feline fairy-tale, but what gets cat lovers so caught up, is why anyone would want to hurt such a purrrrrr-fect cat.
"It was someone who really had the intention of being cruel and had no regard for the life of this cat whatsoever," said Leilani.
The thing Big Ben still needs is a good home. He won't be up for adoption until December. If you're interested in adopting him, contact the Placer SPCA in Roseville.
Placer SPCA in Roseville says they have raised thousands of dollars and have already paid for Ben's surgery. Leftover money they raised to treat Ben will help other abused cats.
