Bad Air Quality Causing Concern In The Valley
SACRAMENTO (CBS13) ―
The smoke and heat is really taking a toll on our health. What should you be doing throughout the day to keep you and your family safe?
"I am just going to a car to a building," says Marilyn Mickelson.
Going to the public library in Roseville, Marilyn and Dick Mickelson try to beat the heat because their other plan isn't working.
"We try not to breathe but it doesn't work because you pass out," says Dick.
Obviously, that's not an option, but Doctor Robert Royers says there are ways to protect yourself.
"In these days of fires to keep the particulate matters out of your lungs, that's probably the most important thing," says Dr. Royers. He also suggests, "On these really hot days, start drinking water right when you wake up and all day long. And if you have to be outside, make sure you wear a mask, like a Hepa mask, that will definitely filter out all the bad air."
Dr. Royers also warns people," Even if you are indoors, say your house or a car and think you are getting some relief with blasting the AC, you are still breathing in bad air, so make sure you turn it to re-circulate."
And even if you are exposed to bad air, Royers says a breath of fresh air will come soon.
"I don't think we are at the point yet that healthy people going outside are going to have long term effects from this," explains Dr. Royers.
