Computer Glitch Halts Cache Creek Casino Payouts
BROOKS, Calif. (CBS13) ―
A major malfunction kept Cache Creek Casino players from pocketing payouts thanks to a glitchy software installation that went haywire.
Cache Creek representatives say they knew there would be a few disruptions, but nothing like what occurred. Slot machines are like a computer network in your office, and when the network goes down, there's trouble; in Cache Creek's case, the error kept every slot from paying out.
With slot machines not printing payout tickets, staff went into overdrive to pay out the winnings the old-fashioned way: by hand, one player at a time.
A higher than normal customer count added to the wait for cash, making it perhaps the first time a casino wished there wasn't as many customers in their business.
"That's part of the problem. We picked the slowest day of the week, a Tuesday in the middle of the night," Cean Burgeson said. "Unfortunately, we had more customers than we thought we would."
In gaming, time is money. The casino loses cash for every second of the slot standstill, and customers lose patience.
"We know people are frustrated and we're doing everything we can to accommodate them," Burgeson said.
The casino gave comps to every player, $25 in gambling money, and some got free food and drink. Cache Creek says they want to make sure every winner gets their money, even if they left empty-handed.
"Please just contact us, we'll do everything we can to make sure you're taken care of," Burgeson said.
