Authorities have arrested a former grocery store butcher in connection with a spate of ATM identity thefts at Lunardi's Supermarket in Los Gatos.
Los Gatos police says 37-year-old Raymond Kurt Fischer was booked Thursday night on suspicion of burglary and conspiracy.
Fischer is accused of defrauding 250 shoppers of about $300,000 in March and April when the customers had their identities stolen and money fraudulently withdrawn from their accounts.
Investigators say a debit-card-reading machine was swapped out with a device that collects a shopper's card number and personal information.
Cash withdrawals were reportedly made from ATMs in various Southern California cities.
