Teen Arrested For Drunk Driving In Modesto Crash

MODESTO (CBS13) ― Modesto Police have arrested a 19-year-old on DUI charges after an early morning crash in Modesto that shut down a major intersection and seriously injured another teen.

The single car crash happened on E. Briggsmore Avenue just east of Oakdale Road.  Police say a 1995 BMW flipped several times, ejected a 17-year-old girl from backseat and hit several boats parked in the "Bob's Marine" lot.

Police arrested the driver, 19-year-old Sophana Sam of Modesto for felony driving under the influence causing injury.

Police believe Sam was driving at a high rate of speed.  They are also investigating whether anyone in the car was wearing seatbelts at the time of the accident.

The westbound lanes of E. Briggsmore Avenue from Lakewood Avenue to Oakdale Road were shut down while the Traffic Unit investigated. Anyone with information about the crash is asked to contact the Modesto Police Traffic Unit at (209) 572-9592.
