Former Home Of 'Good Day Sacramento' Robbed

SACRAMENTO (CBS13) ―

Call it a serious case of media bashing but the suspect wasn't necessarily critical, just destructive.  He got away with valuable radio and television equipment.

It happened in Sacramento at the old KMAX studios, which used to be the home of Good Day Sacramento.  It was a bad day for the new occupants, an up and coming Spanish language media powerhouse.

The suspect smashed the entrance to Bustos media headquarters.

Then he helped himself to a flat screen plasma television and leaves but come back for more.

"He opened the fence and there's another plasma."

Felipe Chavez gave the play by play of the man who broke in and chose to stay.  For two hours he's captured on surveillance cameras, roaming the halls, going through the loading dock and making off with about $50,000 worth of equipment.

Many items were taken including laptops, TV cameras, compact disc players and microphones.  It was a sizeable loss to the company.

A loss that began in the parking lot, the surveillance camera caught it on tape.  The man broke into a radio station vehicle and he lights flashed indicating the alarm is going off.  But no alarms went off inside the building.

"He came for the SUV and he took the entire building as a bonus."  Chavez said.

A building that used to be the home of KMAX-TV, our sister station; it's now home to a Spanish language media group.  They run 25 radio stations out of the office.  Serving markets in California, Utah, Oregon and plenty more.  Spanish language stations have shown the most growth of any radio format nationwide.
