Officials Euthanize Bear Blamed For Home Break-ins

INCLINE VILLAGE (AP) ― A bear blamed for breaking into a series of homes and businesses at Lake Tahoe this year has been captured and euthanized.

Nevada Department of Wildlife officials say the the 5-year-old, 400-pound male bear was killed after it became caught in a trap Wednesday at Incline Village.

They say the bruin was one of three that have been frequent nuisances around Incline Village area, and it was necessary to euthanize it for public safety.

Ann Bryant of the bear advocacy group BEAR League criticized the black bear's killing, saying it does not solve the problem of irresponsible people who live in bear country.

She and wildlife officials urge the public to remove temptations for bears such as trash and food.
