More Warning Signs To Go Up On Bay Bridge Curve

More Local News
SAN FRANCISCO (AP) ― Transportation officials plan to install more signs warning drivers to slow down on a new section of the San Francisco-Oakland Bay Bridge that has seen more than 20 crashes since it opened.

The decision follows a big rig accident Wednesday that shut four of five lanes on the upper deck of the recently opened S-curve for hours during the evening commute. Authorities say the truck was going too fast for the curve, where the speed limit drops from 50 to 40 miles per hour.

The California Department of Transportation plans to add signs to the section that alert drivers to their speed and another large, yellow sign with the speed limit and a curved arrow.

The S-curve is part of the project to replace the bridge's seismically unsafe eastern span with a new bridge.
