Hayward Fire Disrupts BART Service

Official BART Updates

HAYWARD (AP) ― Bay Area Rapid Transit officials say at least two electrical fires at a Hayward substation have disrupted BART service in the East Bay.

The first fire broke out around 4:30 a.m Saturday and forced the closure of the Hayward, South Hayward, Union City and Fremont BART stations.

Another fire broke out again at the same substation shortly before noon and caused another substation to catch fire.

BART has been providing bus service between the stations where service has been disrupted.

BART officials are investigating what caused the fires. No injuries have been reported.

Officials say the station closures could affect East Bay residents who plan to take BART to San Francisco for Saturday's fireworks show at the Embarcadero.
