Cops: Woman Used Baby As Weapon While Shoplifting

SACRAMENTO (CBS13) ― A grandmother has been arrested and accused of using her baby granddaughter as a shield and weapon while shoplifting at a Sacramento department store, according to authorities.

Felicia Renee Harris, 38, is accused of going into the Marshals on Howe Avenue and Hurley Way on Monday, pushing her granddaughter in a stroller.

The Sacramento County Sheriff's Department says Harris hid more than $100 worth of men's clothing behind the baby in the stroller and walked out the front doors. Security officers were waiting outside and confronted Harris when she exited the store.

Harris refused to stop, and allegedly used the baby and the stroller as a weapon and pushed it into one of the loss prevention officers. As the stroller rolled away into the parking lot, Harris then began assaulting the officer, according to police.

"She was actually scratching, kicking and biting him," said Sheriff's spokesperson Sgt. Tim Curran.

The baby nearly fell out of the stroller as it rolled through the parking lot, but a Good Samaritan picked her up and took care of her until police arrived on scene.

Felicia Harris was arrested and is being held on $1 million bail, charged with robbery, violating probation and child endangerment.
