Mom Arrested For Drug Death Of Two-Month-Old

SACRAMENTO (CBS13) ― Sacramento police officers have arrested a 45-year-old woman for the drug death of her infant daughter.

Police arrested 45-year-old Maureen Hoffart on Tuesday after a 6-month investigation.

The 2-month-old girl died back in January.  Officers had been called to a home for a medical call and discovered the dead baby.  While nothing seemed suspicious, the coroner's office found the baby had a lethal dose of methamphetamine in her system.

Investigators now believe the baby ingested the methamphetamine as a direct result of actions by the mother.  While officers don't know exactly how the baby ingested the drugs, drugs can be carried from mother to baby through breast milk.
