Attorney Sentenced For Sexual Assault On Clients
SACRAMENTO (CBS13) ―
A divorce attorney has been sentenced to 18 months in prison for sexually assaulting five of his female clients, according to the officials.
Gary Appelblatt will have to register as a sex offender for life after pleading no contest to four felony charges of sexual battery by a professional and one charge of attempted sexual battery, according to the Sacramento County District Attorney.
Appelblatt is accused of telling several of his female clients that he was a pharmacist and offering to perform a medical examination on them after suggesting that they appeared ill during his consultations.
He would pull out a stethoscope and conduct an "examination" on the women, according to the district attorney, and would then attempt to touch the victims' breasts. All of the victims stopped him and immediately left his office once they realized he was not performing a legitimate examination.
"The defendant was a predator who used his professional status as a divorce attorney to sexually assault a number of female clients over a period of years," said Deputy District Attorney Keith Hill. "Today's prison sentence will help insure he is not longer in apposition to prey on future victims."
Appelblatt has worked as an attorney since 1989.
