Antioch Women Test Positive For West Nile Virus

WALNUT CREEK (AP) ― Contra Costa County officials are reporting the first human case of West Nile virus of the year in the county.

Officials with the Contra Costa Mosquito and Vector Control District say a 56-year-old Antioch woman tested positive for the virus last week.

District officials also say that five birds and two groups of mosquitoes tested positive for West Nile in the past week, with Antioch and Brentwood considered high-risk areas for the virus.

To combat the spread of the virus district officials have been fogging for mosquitoes in parts of the county.

The virus was first detected in Contra Costa County in 2005.
