Four family members of a shooting suspect have been arrested, accused of helping him get away after he allegedly shot and killed a man last weekend in Elk Grove.
The shooting happened at the Sikh Sports Complex during the Sikh Sports Festival. Police say 24-year-old Amandeep Dhami of Elk Grove shot a man and got away with his family's help, which included giving him the keys to a getaway car.
"They actively, knowingly and willingly helped a murder suspect flee from a scene. And it's something we take very seriously and it won't be tolerated," said Sgt. Tim Curran, Sacramento Police Dept.
Friday, police arrested the four in connection with the shooting. Two of the suspects are female cousins of Dhami; the third -- a male -- is also Dhami's cousin. The fourth is the suspect's own father.
Members of the Sikh community have promised to protest the arrest of the women, saying that doing so is disrespectful to women.
Dhami is currently on the run. A federal warrant has been issued for his arrest, in case he has already fled the country and local authorities need international help in order to catch him.
A second gunman was arrested after allegedly firing shots. He was pummeled by the crowd at the festival with hockey sticks and cricket bats and held until deputies arrived. He is currently jail.
