An Alpaca that fell into a well near Esparto Wednesday morning has been rescued.
The six-week old animal fell down the 400-foot hole at around 9 a.m. Wednesday. Its head and front legs were all that was sticking out when its owner Jan Davis, made the shocking discovery.
"I called 911 and all kinds of help arrived," said Davis.
The hole was dug to look for water and had been left uncovered.
A veterinarian tied a nylon rope around the animal's neck to make sure it didn't slip down the hole. Twelve hours later, rescuers accomplished their goal. The alpaca was rescued at around 9 p.m.
The well has been covered to prevent further accidents.
