50 Abused Animals Recovering Thanks To Volunteers
SOMERSET (CBS13) ―
Fifty neglected and abused animals are recovering after being seized in the community of Somerset earlier this week. Volunteers are now helping them to transition from rescue to recovery.
"When you see this it's really sad," said volunteer Ashley Bier.
Fifty animals, ranging from horses to sheep to dogs to goats, have been abused for years in El Dorado County. But life is getting better, thanks to The Grace Foundation, a volunteer work party of rehabilitation.
"We've had so much community," said Beth DeCaprio from The Grace Foundation. "It's been a great day."
Evidence of abuse is still visible. Some horses have overgrown hooves, and some sheep had not been sheared for years. Organizers say the woman who owned the animals simply couldn't afford to take care of them anymore.
The volunteers still need help. "We need hay, pitchforks, shovels, wheelbarrels," said DeCaprio.
They're working in hopes that the nightmare for these animals will soon be over. If you want to help out, they're having another "volunteer work party" tomorrow morning.
