Veterans Job Fair Attracts Numerous Applicants
SACRAMENTO (CBS13) ―
Today's Veteran's Job Fair was part of a month-long blitz of 120 job fairs for Veterans in more than 30 states. CBS13 went to Arco Arena to find out more on how local employers are returning the favor for those who serve our country.
"It's just complete and total change of your entire world," says Scott Getchel, a veteran.
Scott Getchel's current world is in the Air Force. But, dressed in his new suit, Scott is getting ready to be a civilian.
"I just walk a little slower than I used to," says Scott.
Fighting the crowds at the Veteran's Job Fair, the injured military pilot is trying to line up a job so that when he leaves his base in New Mexico, the Sacramento native will have work back home.
"Anything that lets me pay the bills," Scott says.
Grace Wagstaff isn't transitioning out of the military.
"I got out in 1984, so I experienced working since I have gotten out of the Air Force," she says.
But, she's also contending with the lines out the door, and the attention of just 28 employers inside Arco Arena.
"I had my own business, and when the economy took a downturn, here I am back out in the work force," explains Grace.
But both of these veterans are willing to put in the work to get to work.
Scott knows that in order to find work, he has a struggle ahead of him. "A lot of research, a lot of trial and error and just stubborn perseverance," says Scott.
