Tracy Restaurant Tries Self Service To Save Green
TRACY (CBS13) ―
The struggling economy is forcing a popular restaurant to change its ways. Service has been slashed and the menu has been downsized. But it's not all bad for customers in the town of Tracy.
Known for the great food, drinks and service, The Great Plate Bar and Grill in Tracy is not looking so great financially.
"I've been in business for 30 years and I never seen anything like this never ever," says Mike Corbett.
Mike Corbett manages The Great Plate Bar and Grill.
Corbett says business is down 25 percent and they're trying to adjust to the economic slump by cutting back.
"Businesses that have folded- they were our customers, they're gone," says Mike.
But at the same time, Corbett says they're trying to give their customers more bang for their buck by slashing prices by an average of $2.
But, the catch is self-service.
Some of the changes that will take place at the restaurant will include: people will have to start ordering from the bar. Also, customers will get up to get their own drinks from the bar.
There will be 25 employees rather than the 40 that usually work that The Great Plate, which leaves some of the workers a bit nervous.
"I've been here for a long time and just the whole concept I'm not real good with change," says one employee.
