SACRAMENTO (CBS13 / AP) ― Sacramento police are still searching for a man they say gunned down an innocent teen in Del Paso Heights Friday night.

The16-year-old girl was killed Friday after a gunman fired several shots towards a Del Paso Heights home. The shooting occurred near the intersection of Cypress Street and Roanoke Avenue just before 11:00 p.m.

Police responded to the scene and find 16-year-old Jelisa Office lying near the street. Police say she was shot in the upper body. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

Investigators say Office was attending a chaperoned party on Cypress Street at the time of the shooting. The suspect reportedly fired about a dozen shots toward the home.

The suspect is being described as a light-skinned black male in his late teens or early twenties. Police say that because of the suspects actions, the homicide has been classified as gang-related, although it appears that none of the party goers, including the victim, were involved in gang activity.

At a memorial vigil Saturday night, friends and relatives described an honor-roll student at Rio Linda High School who planned to go to college and become a pediatrician.

"This is an opportunity for our spirit to grow," said her uncle, Jeffrey Office. "Today is the day we must choose, because tomorrow is no guarantee. Today is a gift."

Marjae Bolden, 19, who drove to the party with Office, was lying inside the Buick when she heard gunfire.

"I looked up and she was on the ground," Bolden said. "She was my best friend, nice, caring."
