Surewest Says New Web Service Is Nations Fastest
by Kris Pickel
SACRAMENTO (CBS13) ―
If even high speed internet is too slow for you, the fastest internet service in the nation is now available in Sacramento.
Surewest is a regional service provider. Their area is basically Lincoln to Elk Grove. About 100,000 people in the area are the only ones in the nation that can subscribe to a service that almost takes the waiting out of the internet.
"Like You Tube, people spend half-an-hour up loading a video. I spend 5 minutes," says Jim Husman.
Husman is the first person to sign up for what Surewest calls the fastest internet service available.
"I'm a sucker for new technology," he says.
It helps this systems administrator with work, but he loves it for fun. He pulls up video's instantly, and when it comes to gaming...
"It's fast. Got to have the speed," he says.
The new service provides 50 megabits per second.
James Player with Surewest says each megabit is like a lane on a highway.
"DSL would be a smaller lane highway compared to Comcast 6 megs which would be a 6 lane highway For us it a 50 megabit highway so there are so many lanes to go to the internet there is no way there is going to be a traffic jam," says Player.
But the technology doesn't come cheap. 50 megabits will cost you almost $260 dollars a month. Not everyone in Sacramento can get the service. The new service runs on fiber optics.
