Students, Parents Rally To Keep Loretto Afloat
SACRAMENTO (CBS13) ―
Hundreds of students showed up on their day off to fight for their school. Loretto High School will shut down this June because of the low enrollment rate, but students and parents say they are determined to keep it open.
They won't take no for an answer, hundreds of Loretto students showed up on their day off determined to save their school.
"It's our home, help us keep it," says one Loretto student.
And of course, a direct message was sent to the Bishop and above.
"We begin our prayer in aim of fshs. Lord Jesus Christ you challenge us
"
Loretto girls sent text messages and emails to friends and siblings at other private schools in town, who were joined by other friends and siblings from private schools to send a stronger message.
"This is really overwhelming and I think we're gonna make a difference here today," says one Loretto student.
The students set up a website and parents formed a committee to keep doors open. But Loretto administrators say it is not a lack of money, but a lack of students. Parents and alumni are frustrated the school didn't contact them first.
"I think it was a disservice that we were not asked to bring in our time, our treasure and our talent to keep this school afloat," says one parent.
