Police Find Alleged 'Straw Hat Bandit'
SACRAMENTO COUNTY (CBS13) ―
The suspect known to law officials as the "Straw Hat Bandit," and who was wanted in connection with several bank robberies, was taken into custody Monday in Sacramento County, according to Sacramento County Sheriff's Deputies.
Michael Osgood, 47, was detained after a county K-9 unit saw Osgood driving on Watt Ave. and Ediston Ave. and stopped him. They say that they found a straw hat and cash in the car, along with other items.
Authorities were on the lookout for Osgood after employees at the Sterlent Credit Union on Watt Ave. told police that on June 9 the suspect was approaching the business when they recognized him as the same man who allegedly robbed the business a month before and refused to let him inside. That night at 5:44 p.m., deputies say a man with the same description as the suspect entered the US Bank at Safeway on Arden Wy. and demanded money.
Osgood was booked into the Sacramento County Main Jail on robbery charges. He is accused of seven bank robberies dating back to April 30, 2008.
