Neglected Animals Seized From Sierra Ranch
SOMERSET (AP) ―
Animal control officers have seized about 50 neglected animals from a ranch in the Sierra foothills, including horses and sheep that had not been sheared in years.
Llamas, dogs, cats and a cow also were taken from the property, which is near Placerville about 50 miles east of Sacramento.
The woman who owns the animals became financially unable to take care of them and voluntarily gave up control, said Beth DeCaprio, executive director of the Grace Foundation of Northern California. The El Dorado Hills animal sanctuary began caring for the injured animals on Wednesday.
Veterinarian Mike Russell says some of the horses had grossly overgrown hooves, indicating years of neglect and making it difficult for them to walk.
