Rattlesnake Bites Man In SoCal Cemetery
WHITTIER, Calif. (AP) ―
A man was hospitalized after being bitten by a rattlesnake while visiting a grave at a Whittier cemetery.
Rose Hills Memorial Park and Mortuary spokesman Nick Clark says a man with the last name Maddox was bitten Thursday evening after he saw the snake and tried to pick it up. He did not know Maddox's first name, but KABC-TV identified him as Dean Maddox.
Clark says a relative called 911 and took the man to nearby Presbyterian Intercommunity Hospital.
A Presbyterian Intercommunity spokeswoman says Maddox was later transferred to Kaiser Permanente Baldwin Park Medical Center.
A Kaiser Permanente spokeswoman did not immediately return a call Friday seeking details about the victim's condition.
Clark says cemetery security guards searched for the snake but could not find it.
