Sacramento Area's Last Drive-In Theater Closing
SACRAMENTO (CBS13) ―
Its the last drive-in theater in Sacramento County. And now it's shutting down.
So when will the last movie be shown?
The drive-in. It has become a part of Americana, along with our love of cars and our love of Hollywood rolled up in one.
Even John Travolta couldn't help but sing about it in Grease. But in recent years the money at the Sacramento Six Drive In has been drying up.
So the screens are going dark and in their place, a giant shopping complex will be built instead.
It's a $116 million project on paper. It's called "The Landing." It'll include its own indoor theater, some upscale restaurants and a Marshalls, Michaels, Bed Bath and Beyond and Best Buy.
It's a plan that's been in the works for nearly 10 years. But concerns over congestion and funding have held it up. Now Sacramento County has agreed to build new lanes to handle the expected increase in traffic and the developer is ready to start building this fall.
