Local Car Salesman's Killer Gets Life In Prison
SACRAMENTO (AP) ―
A man convicted of murdering a Sacramento car salesman while on a test drive will spend the rest of his life in prison.
A judge sentenced 28-year-old Alejandro Santana on Friday to a life term without parole. Jurors convicted Santana in July of first-degree murder with special circumstances for the August 2000 death of Thomas Buchholz.
Prosecutors say Santana and a friend took a 1996 Chevrolet Camaro for a test drive on the Capital City Freeway, where they shot Buchholz in the back of the head and dumped his body onto the freeway shoulder. Authorities say Santana killed to get the car parts.
Santana fled to Mexico after the shooting and was arrested in 2005.
His accomplice in the car, Anthony Camacho, is also serving a life term, and two others were convicted for helping in the plan.
