Peterson Wrongful Death Suit May Be Seen In July
MODESTO (AP) ―
A wrongful death lawsuit against convicted killer Scott Peterson could go to trial starting next month.
The parents of Laci Peterson, whose husband was convicted of killing her and the fetus she was carrying, filed the civil suit against him in 2003.
Scott Peterson was sentenced to death in 2004 for the murders. The lawsuit is intended to keep him from profiting from the murders by selling his story.
A Stanislaus County Superior Court judge is set to hear arguments about the scope of the trial for Dennis and Sharon Rocha's lawsuit on Friday.
If the judge decides it should revolve solely around a monetary award, it could be resolved within a few days. But if the judge rules the Rochas' attorney must prove Peterson's culpability in the murders, a full trial could begin on July 8.
