JC Penney Call Center Plans To Close Its Doors
CARMICHAEL (CBS13) ―
One big, historic company is closing a catalog call center in Carmichael. Now 300 more people are about to be out of a job. JC Penney call center employees are getting the news late this week. This is yet another tidal wave in the latest crash to the local economy.
The Sacramento JC Penney Catalog Call Center will close its doors on March 20, 2009.
Cheryl Morgan who is an employee at the local call center told CBS13 that," You know there's a lot of people who've worked here 30-odd years."
"The ironic thing is I work for the Unemployment Insurance Appeals Board," says Morgan
Unfortunately, that is the very agency some of her laid off co-workers will have to deal with.
As a state worker, Morgan was already expecting two work furlough days a month, so she was hoping to fill that time by picking up extra shifts here at JC Penney.
