I-5 Big Fix To Replace Water Pumps
SACRAMENTO (CBS13) ―
There are about five weeks to go until a busy portion of Interstate 5 is shut down for more than a month for repairs. However, crews will be repairing much more than the road surface.
How do they keep I-5 from being soggy? The answer is pumps. Lots of them.
The roadway is lower than the water table, so huge pumps line the sides of the interstate. One, CalTrans ID#240273W, doesn't look like much, but the unassuming concrete bunker does yeoman's work.
Inside the three-story chamber, it has finally come time to replace the pumps.
