Hiker Still Missing In Sequoia National Park

More Local News
SEQUOIA NATIONAL PARK, Calif. (AP) ― Authorities are sending helicopters over Sequoia National Park to look for a hiker who's been missing for several days.

Seventy-three-year-old Wade Brunette of Hansville, Wash. was last seen Sunday hiking by himself along the trail to Mt. Whitney. The search effort began Tuesday, after officials heard he had failed to return from a day trip to the 14,494-foot summit, the highest peak in the contiguous United States.

Rescue officials from Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Parks, Yosemite National Park and eight California counties are involved in search efforts on both sides of the Sierra Nevada crest.

Searchers found no sign of him Thursday and say extremely windy conditions have hampered their progress.
