Governor Sets Date For Congressional Election

More Local News
SACRAMENTO (AP) ― Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger has set Nov. 3 as the date of a special election for the Congressional seat vacated by former U.S. Rep. Ellen Tauscher.

The governor set the date Friday. Tauscher resigned and took up the post of undersecretary of state for arms control and international security in June.

Tauscher, a Democrat, represented the 10th Congressional District, which includes parts of Solano, Contra Costa, Alameda and Sacramento counties. She had two years left on her seventh term.

Potential Democratic candidates for the seat include Lt. Gov. John Garamendi, state Assemblywoman Joan Buchanan, state Sen. Mark DeSaulnier and Iraq War veteran Anthony Woods.

Republican David Harmer, an attorney, has also reportedly announced his intention to run.
