Man Struck And Killed On I-80 While Fleeing Police
DIXON, Calif. (AP) ―
A hancuffed drunken driving suspect was killed Tuesday when he escaped from police officers and ran across Interstate 80 in front of an SUV.
Shaun Jones, 26, of Sacramento was pronounced dead at the scene after being struck by a Ford Expedition going 65 mph, the California Highway Patrol said.
Jones had been arrested on suspicion of driving drunk and handcuffed when he bolted and ran down the shoulder of the freeway.
With police in pursuit, he crossed the eastbound lanes and climbed over the center divider. He was immediately struck by a vehicle driven by Lelia Robinson, 42, of Fairfield.
She will not face charges, the CHP said.
