Fatal Car Accident Takes The Lives Of 2 Teens

OLIVEHURST, Calif. (CBS13) ― Two teenagers are dead after their car slammed into a power pole early this morning. Officers say the driver lost control on a turn on Plumas – Arboga Road, just south of Olivehurst.

"It's unbelievable, we just graduated Friday," says one of the teen's classmates.

Sonia Solley was leaving high school, and Jacob O'Neal was just one year behind her.

"They went to prom together. They hung out all the time," Sierra Walker tells CBS13.

Their friend Sierra Walker doesn't know where they were coming from around 5 a.m. Thursday. But, driving on Plumas-Arboga Road she knows where the teens were heading.

"She was coming home to take Jacob home," says Sierra.

Both Debbie Job and Lana Walker were working at the Sleep Train Amphitheater in Olivehurst around the time 18-year-old Sonia tried to take the turn near Forty Mile Road.

"Going too fast and hit the corners wrong," says Debbie.

"The telephone pole probably sat right in the middle of it. It was mangled," explained Lana.

Sonia's 2000 Ford Taurus went shearing off the utility pole, then rolled over which threw Sonia several feet. Jacob fell out of the passenger door; both died instantly. CHP says neither one of the teens were wearing seatbelts.

The community will continue to remember Sonia and Jacob with a candlelight vigil which is planned for Friday night at 7 p.m. at Wheatland High School.

It is still unknown if alcohol was a factor in the accident. The Yuba County Coroner's office is investigating.
