CBS13 Helps Grant Wheatland Woman's Dying Wishes

WHEATLAND (CBS13) ― If you had only weeks to live, what would you want to do? An 84-year-old woman in Wheatland had two wishes in mind, and she's already been granted one and CBS13 has the pictures to prove it. The other was up to CBS13 to grant.

Doris Jones is dying, and she's not sad about it because she doesn't have time to be. She told CBS13 that she already had the time of her life.

Doris told her family for eight months she wanted to zip line, and so last weekend her hospice workers granted her wish and Doris took a leap of faith.

CBS13 heard Doris' story from the Sutter Health Group, who told us her only wish was being on television. So today, CBS13 cameras went to Wheatland to meet her.

In September, Doris was diagnosed with stage 4 lung and brain cancer.

"I asked him how long I have I got, and he said let me tell you about this, and I said how long have I got, and he said maybe three or four months," explains Doris.

That's when Doris told her doctor to leave the cancer alone.

"Because I wanted to be clear headed so I'd know what was going on, I didn't want to be put in a bed and left there," she tells CBS13.

From zip lining to learning how to hula dance to eating Mongolian Barbeque, and even getting her first pedicure, Doris has done more in six weeks that she's always wanted to do than she did in the last 84 years.

"I'll be 85 Christmas," says Doris.

Doris would like to see more than just Christmas; she'd really like to see next February.

"Cause I'll be married 63 years to Sug," Doris says.

Sug is her husband Donnie, who still gets lonesome 62 years later.

"I get emotional when I talk about it because I'm still in love with her and I don't want to lose her," he says.

And she doesn't want to lose him or the time she has left to live, laugh and love.

"The good Lord knows what he's doing, and when he's ready for me, he'll come and get me," Doris explains.
