The 'Big Fix' Will Mean Big Cost For Truckers

SACRAMENTO (CBS13) ― One more day and drivers will no longer have access to one of Sacramento's major commute routes.  A route that also happens to be a major truck route.

Tomorrow night, the northbound lanes of Interstate 5 from the Highway 50 connector to Richards Boulevard will be closed.

Thousands of cars and trucks travel this stretch of I-5 every day. But after May 30th, they'll be forced to take an alternate route.

For truckers carrying heavy loads, finding another way through the Capital City will not be easy or cheap.

"No good way to get around," said one trucker who spoke to CBS13's Lisa Gonzales, "All these trucks.  All these cars. It's just not going to work."

Longer alternate routes, mean more miles and more fuel.

And diesel fuel is not cheap right now. At more than $5 a gallon, it can cost as much as $1500 to fill up.
