Orphaned Bear Cub Escapes In Placer County
AUBURN (CBS13) ―
An orphaned bear cub that escaped from animal control officers in Placer County last night has been found in a tree in Auburn.
The bear was spotted this morning in a tree on the Linda Road.
"Our dog Jake chased a bear up the tree," said young Cassie Balderas, who spotted the bear. "I was surprised. There was a bear in our tree."
The bear's mother was hit by a car near Tahoe last night and animal control officers captured the bear cub. It was taken to the DeWitt center in Auburn where it somehow escaped from its cage.
Animal Control officers used a cherry picker to tranquilize and re-capture the bear cub. The cub is doing okay, and officers say she has no real health issues.
