BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (AP) ― A Bakersfield man who was shot with a stun gun by deputies and bit by a sheriff's dog during his arrest has died.

Rory Romal McKenzie was pronounced dead at Kern Medical Center on Thursday, hours after he was taken into custody for allegedly assaulting his wife.

According to authorities, the 25-year-old resisted arrest at his home so deputies used a Taser to subdue him but he continued to struggle until a sheriff's dog bit him.

After seeing McKenzie was having difficulty breathing, deputies tried CPR, then paramedics took him to the hospital.

McKenzie is the second suspect in two weeks to die in custody. The other man died after self-inflicted injuries including jumping off two roofs and hitting his head with a shovel.
