Woodland Dentist Appeals To Keep His License

Send Story Ideas, Pictures to CBS13

SACRAMENTO (CBS13) ― A Woodland dentist accused of inappropriately touching is patients is appealing to keep his license.

Mark Anderson was suspended from practicing by the state dental board after women accused him of groping them in the dentist chair.

So far 27 women have come forward and prosecutors are investigating other complaints.

Today Anderson's attorney asked that his suspension be lifted until the investigation is over. The Department of Consumer Affairs however argued that letting Anderson practice is a danger and a risk to patients.

In documents obtained by CBS13, Anderson did not actually deny the allegations against him./ One report says he actually wrote a letter of apology to one patient.

Anderson and his attorney argue that he was touching his patients in the breasts because they suffer from TMJ and this was part of the treatment.

But one victim's attorney does not buy that explanation. "I didn't hear and we talked about this earlier, any male patients coming forward because men suffer from TMJ, too". said Noel Ferris an attorney for one victim, "I haven't heard about any men having their chest massaged."

The judge did not make a decision on the appeal today, but could decide early next week. That means Anderson could be back practicing sometime next week.

Anderson faces misdemeanor charges of battery and sexual battery.
