Suspected DUI Driver Blamed In 6 Car Crash
SACRAMENTO (CBS13) ―
A suspected drunk driver is being blamed for a chain reaction accident that brought a half dozen cars to a screeching, crunching halt on Highway 99 in Sacramento overnight.
The CHP says it all started around midnight when the suspected DUI driver slammed into the center divide on Highway 99, just south of Florin.
The car came to rest in the middle of the highway completely blacked out.
Two more crashes followed because the drivers couldn't see the car.
Everyone made it out of the accidents with just minor injuries and the suspected drunk driver was arrested.
But it's not much consolation for Antoinette Watson who's daughter had just bought a new car.
"He was totally, seriously drunk. He got outta the car yelling "I'm drunk. Just shoot me." Well you know what, you've got a problem. He doesn't know how many people's lives he affected out there drinking and driving," said Watson. "He's got young kids (out here). My child just graduated. She could have been injured."
Antoinette had been following her daughter, Julia, when the crash happened.
Both women swerved to miss the car, but were rear-ended by other drivers.
