Tigers Beat Out Giants, 7-2

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) ―

Placido Polanco had four hits, drove in two runs and scored three to lead Detroit to a 7-2 win over San Francisco. The Tigers got to Giants starter Barry Zito for a pair of runs in the first inning and knocked him out of the game an inning later. The former Cy Young award winner allowed five runs on five hits and walked four in his short stint and is now 2-and-11.

Armando Galarraga improved to 7-and-2. He didn't allow an earned run in six innings and struck out five to win his third straight start and fourth consecutive decision.
