SACRAMENTO (FBI) ―
Efrain Garcia had been convicted of multiple counts of assault with a deadly weapon (firearms), shooting into an inhabited dwelling, attempted homicide, assault on a peace officer and resisting arrest.
On 07/27/1999, while Garcia was awaiting transfer by the California Department of Corrections (CDC) to serve a sixteen-year sentence, and temporarily housed at the Rio Cosumnes Correctional Center (RCCC), in Sacramento County, he forced a soon to be released inmate to switch identification bracelets, causing correctional officials to inadvertently release Garcia. A no-bail warrant, Warrant Number 99F06115, charging flight-escape, was issued for Garcia on 07/29/1999 by the Superior Court for the County of Sacramento.
When arrested on the aforementioned charges, Garcia was using his brother's identification, but fingerprint analysis revealed Garcia's true identity. Garcia has used multiple aliases and routinely utilizes his brother's social security number; a tactic still still being used by Garcia. Efrain Garcia's brother is Ruben Garcia.
A warrant issued in the Superior Court of California, County of Yolo, on May 30, 2007 alleges that on May 26, 2007 MENDOZA shot and killed his wife.
On 06/27/2007 a warrant charging Favela-Mendoza with Unlawful Flight to Avoid Prosecution was issued by the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of California.
Case Summary: On May 26, 2007, at approximately 2:57 p.m., Yolo County Deputies were dispatched to the area of County Road 94(CR) south of CR 13. Deputies arrived and located a female victim of a gunshot; later identified as ANGEL GUADALUPE BENITEZ-OJEDA, married name of FAVELA.
Witnesses reported that BENITEZ-OJEDA was pruning trees in an almond orchard when a Hispanic male, later identified as IGNACIO FAVELA-MENDOZA, drove up to her location in the orchard, pointed a shotgun and ordered her to get into his vehicle. When BENITEZ-OJEDA refused she was shot once by MENDOZA. The gun shot entered under her left under arm and then entered her chest. BENITEZ-OJEDA later died of her wounds. being used by Garcia. Efrain Garcia's brother is Ruben Garcia.
