Shriver Gets Out Of Ticket During Muffin Break

LOS ANGELES (CBS13) ― After a day of shopping in Santa Monica, first lady Maria Shriver reportedly stopped to buy a muffin from Peet's Coffee then she went to her car where her meter had expired. But instead of feeding the meter, she fed her face, according to TMZ.

The tabloid caught Shriver with her tongue out munching on a muffin. They also shot video of her CHP security officer allegedly talked a parking official out of a ticket.

"I feel she needs to obey the laws like everyone else," said Linda Johnson, Sacramento resident.

"Muffingate," as it's now called, is just the latest parking problem for California's first lady. She's been caught talking on her cell phone while driving, and parked in a red zone. And she's not the only one in the family dealing with traffic turmoil.

"I also saw Arnold parking in the red zone," said Andrew Winn, Sacramento, resident.

"These are the people making the laws, and they should at least follow them," said Steve Naviglio, Democratic strategist.

Democratic strategist Steve Maviglio says breaking the law over and over again raises some concerns, but he doubts the governor's approval rating -- already at a low 28 percent -- will take another dip because of the parking problems, saying most Californian's probably aren't suprised.

"With Governor Schwarzenegger we knew what we were getting. He's a celebrity. We have to deal with the paparazzi," said Maviglio. "We have to deal with the extra treatment he gets."

"Since he's not running again, he could go back to making movies," said John Davis, Sacramento resident. "So he can break all the laws he wants."

A CHP spokesperson says they are looking into the incident, but say it's too early to comment. They say they do take allegations of misconduct very seriously.
