Stars Of 'Spider-Man 3' Wow The Masses In Queens
Much-Anticipated '3' Opens In Queens, N.Y.
NEW YORK (CBS) ―
Shaking hands and posing with screaming fans on Monday night, the man who plays Spider-Man did not disappoint.
Side by side with some of today's brightest young stars, Tobey McGuire and Kirsten Dunst were on hand for the U.S. premiere of the much anticipated next chapter of the Spider-Man adventure.
People came from all over Queens and New York City to get a glimpse of the stars, and the lucky ones got to see a movie that some are already saying is better than the first two installments.
"This is fantastic," McGuire said. "It's so exciting. It was fun to go say hi to all of them. They've come out here to support. We brought Peter Parker Spiderman back to Queens, his hometown, so it's a blast.
"It's an ode to where they're from," McGuire added. "It really grounds our films in a nice place and it feels real."
Needless to say, "Spider-Man 3" spun a web of attention at its New York premiere, the first movie premiere of any kind to be held in Queens.
The film reveals the dark side of Spider-Man when his suit turns jet black, enhancing his powers and allowing his pride and overconfidence to take hold of him.
His personal struggles are tripled while fighting off three villains, the new Green Goblin, played by James Franco, Sandman (Thomas Haden Church) and Venom (Topher Grace).
"I'm done playing good guys," Grace said. "It's so much more fun to play the bad guy. There are no rules. You get to do stuff you never get to do in real life."
These real life actors said there is no better place to watch the action unfold than in the Big Apple.
"I've seen the film once," Franco said. "I saw the world premiere of the film in Tokyo, but I wanted to wait to see it again in New York because I knew this crowd would be the best."
The film opens nationwide on May 4.
