PETA launched a new Web site taking aim at the Olsen twins, introducing visitors to "Hairy Kate" and "Trashley Trollsen."
PETA/CBS
Take that, Olsen twins.
In
its latest celebrity-bashing brouhaha, the People for Ethical Treatment
of Animals is pelting fur-toting twins Mary Kate and Ashley Olsen with
a whole lot of hate for their animal-wearing ways by launching a new
Web site poking fun at the pair.
The site introduces users to
"Hairy Kate" and "Trashley Trollsen," two zombie-faced, cartoon twins
wearing furs and smattered in blood, and even provides a video of a
show they star in called "Full House of Horrors." The show consists of
edited segments from the show that put the Olsen twins on the map,
"Full House," and has a character named "Futureman" showing the
then-toddlers how they'd bring havoc to animals in the future.
PETA
chose the Olsen twins because of they've refused to stop wearing furs,
and have even added fur-lined products in their fashion line, The Row.
The site includes an interactive forum where users can send letters of
disapproval to the Olsen twins in hopes of having them stop producing
the furry fashion line.
Visitors can also "dress up" Hairy Kate and Trashley in various garments made up of animal parts and smeared in blood.
Hoping
to target a younger audience, PETA also launched a MySpace page for
visitors. The Trollsen twins introduce themselves to MySpacers, telling
them:
"Hi, we're Hairy Kate and Trashley Trollsen, and like
most trolls, we live under a bridge and wait for furry animals to walk
by so we can skin them and wear them as hats. Because we're
celebrities, we don't have to live by the same rules that ugly people
like you do, and if we want to wrap ourselves up in someone else's
skin, or drape our bodies in the rotting remains of someone's family,
we totally can!"
In an area where they can include who they'd
like to meet, the twins prefer "chinchillas, foxes, and minksbut not
until they've been beaten, electrocuted, skinned, and turned into
coats."
So far, it seems to be a hit for the younger MySpace
demographic. More than 950 people had signed up to be "friends" of the
twins and submitted comments of support aimed at PETA.
"You
guys are amazing. I can't believe anyone would have the guts to do
this. But Ashley and Mary-Kate have guts all over them so really it
makes sense!" comments one MySpace member.
The MySpace page
also says the pair describe themselves as "a pair of unpleasant,
airheaded fur hags," and lists their hero as Cruella DeVille.
It's
most certainly going to make a statement as word of the site spreads,
but only time will tell if the insults will help PETAs cause or only
fuel the real Olsen twins to fight back.
